Backup Lamp Switch: Service and Repair
Back-Up Light Switch Test/Replacement
NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. Remove the intake air duct splash separator (A).
2. Do the battery removal procedure Removal and Replacement.
3. Remove the harness clamps (A), then remove the battery base (B).
4. Remove transmission hanger A.
5. Disconnect the back-up light switch 2P connector (A).
6. Check for continuity between back-up light switch 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be continuity only when the shift lever is in reverse.
- If the test result is OK, go to step 9.
- If the test result is not OK, go to step 7.
7. Remove the back-up light switch (A). Check for continuity between back-up light switch 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be continuity when the switch end (B) is pressed, and no continuity when the switch end is released.
- If the test result is OK, check the reverse shift mechanism in the transmission.
- If the test result is not OK, replace the back-up light switch.
8. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0012, 08718-0003, or P/N 08718-0009) to the threads of the back-up light switch, and install it on the transmission housing.
9. Connect the back-up light switch 2P connector.
10. Install transmission hanger A.
11. Install the battery base (A) and the harness clamps (B).
12. Do the battery installation procedure Removal and Replacement.
13. Install the intake air duct splash separator (A).
