SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-61, 85-62
DTC 85-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software SRS Unit Update, and retest.
- These DTCs are codes that relate to the ODS unit operation.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Check the No. 12 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box No. 12 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, audio wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, then clear the DTC.

7. Remove the back panel Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
8. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
9. Remove the cover from the ODS unit.
10. Check the connection between the ODS unit 18P connector (A) and the ODS unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 85-61 or 85-62 is still present, go to step 11.
11. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
13. Measure the voltage between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 14.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness, the audio wire harness, the SRS floor wire harness, or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
15. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminals No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Open in the SRS floor wire harness, the ODS unit harness, poor connection at the ground G702; Sedan, Sport Wagon, or poor connection at the ODS unit 18P connector and the ODS unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
17. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
18. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Short to ground in the SRS floor wire harness or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
19. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 7 (SRS floor wire harness or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
20. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
21. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
22. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Go to step 23.
NO -
Short to power in the SRS floor wire harness or the ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
23. Replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement.
24. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
25. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
