HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - The HFL messages and voice prompts cannot be heard or are weak
The HFL messages and voice prompts cannot be heard or are weak (with navigation)
NOTE: Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio system, and check for sound in each mode (AM/FM and CD/DVD).
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Go to step 3.
NO -
Go to Sound Quality Diagnosis Audio System Sound Quality Diagnosis or No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) troubleshooting No Sound Is Heard From the Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With ELS Audio).�
3. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
6. Check for DTCs.
Are there any DTCs indicated?
YES -
Troubleshoot the indicated DTCs.�
NO -
Go to step 7.
7. Press the TALK button.
Are HFL messages played?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Go to step 10.
8. Turn on the audio system.
9. Press the HFL TALK button.
Does the audio system mute when HFL messages are being played?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.�
NO -
Go to HandsFreeLink control unit Input Test HandsFreeLink Control Unit Input Test.�
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
11. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
12. Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector terminals No. 11 and No. 25 and audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) terminals No. 5 and No. 16 respectively.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
13. Check for continuity between body ground and audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) terminals No. 5 and No. 16 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 14.
14. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair. If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.�
