Fluid Filter - A/T: Service and Repair
ATF Filter Replacement
NOTE: The ATF filter is not a scheduled maintenance item. Replace the filter only if it is leaking, or contaminated, or when the transmission is being overhauled or replaced with a remanufactured unit.
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, or apply the parking brake, block both rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.
2. Remove the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.
3. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the ATF.
4. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
5. Remove the intake air duct.
6. Remove the air cleaner housing Service and Repair.
7. Disconnect the ATF warmer hose (A) from the ATF warmer (B). Turn the end of the hose up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hose and the line.
8. Disconnect the ATF warmer hose (A) from the ATF filter (B). Turn the end of the hose up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hose.
9. Remove the bolt (A), then remove the ATF filter holder (B) and the ATF filter (C).
10. Disconnect the ATF warmer hose (D) from the ATF filter.
11. Replace the ATF filter, then secure it with the ATF filter holder and the bolt.
12. Connect the ATF warmer hoses, and secure the hoses with the clips ATF Warmer Hose Replacement.
13. Install the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.
14. Install the air cleaner housing Service and Repair.
15. Install the intake air duct.
16. Refill the transmission with ATF.
