DTC Troubleshooting: P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, P0356
DTC P0351:
No. 1 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0352:
No. 2 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0353:
No. 3 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0354:
No. 4 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0355:
No. 5 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
DTC P0356:
No. 6 Cylinder Ignition Coil Circuit Malfunction
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Start the engine.
4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, and/or P0356 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil(s) and the PCM.�
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
6. Exchange the ignition coil from the problem cylinder with one from another cylinder.
7. Start the engine.
8. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is an ignition coil DTC indicated at the exchanged cylinder?
YES -
Replace the faulty ignition coil Service and Repair, then go to step 27.
NO -
Go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
10. Check the No. 13 IG COIL (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Go to step 13.
11. Remove the ignition coil relay (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
12. Test the ignition coil relay Testing and Inspection.
Is the relay OK?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Replace the ignition coil relay, then go to step 26.
13. Remove the ignition coil relay (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
14. Disconnect all ignition coil 3P connectors.
15. Check for continuity between No. 1 ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short in the wire between the ignition coils and the ignition coil relay. Also replace the No. 13 IG COIL (15 A) fuse, then go to step 26.
NO -
Check the under-hood fuse/relay box, and replace it if needed Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation, then go to step 26.
16. Reinstall the ignition coil relay.
17. Disconnect the ignition coil 3P connector from the problem cylinder.
18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
19. Measure the voltage between ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 3 of the problem cylinder and body ground (see table).
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the ignition coil and the ignition coil relay, then go to step 26.
20. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
21. Check for continuity between ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 2 of the problem cylinder and body ground (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 22.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the ignition coil and G101, then go to step 26.
22. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
23. Disconnect PCM connector B (49P).
24. Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate PCM connector terminal (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short in the wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then go to step 26.
NO -
Go to step 25.
25. Check for continuity between appropriate ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 1 and the PCM connector terminal of the problem cylinder (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 32.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then go to step 26.
26. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
27. Reconnect all connectors.
28. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
29. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
30. Do the PCM idle learn procedure PCM Idle Learn Procedure.
31. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, and/or P0356 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil(s) and the PCM, then go to step 1.
NO -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
32. Reconnect all connectors.
33. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM.
34. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, and/or P0356 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil(s) and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -
If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
