Audio System Self-Diagnostic Function

How to Obtain the Audio Unit Serial Number

NOTE: This procedure can only be done after the power has been disconnected and reconnected to the audio unit, and the audio unit displays CODE when the audio unit is turned on.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob to on.

5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.






6. The display shows an 8 digit serial number.





7. Use all 8 numbers as the serial number when using the Interactive Network (iN) to retrieve the 5 digit anti-theft code.

8. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

How to Check the Audio System Condition

The audio system has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the audio system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

NOTE:

- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
- The self-diagnostic function does not find every problem with the audio system. Check any official Honda service website for more information about the audio system.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob to on.

5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.






6. When you are in the self-diagnostic mode, pressing a preset button starts the diagnostic mode that is assigned to that preset button.

NOTE: Any other diagnostic screens shown are for factory use only.

No. 2 button

Audio button, knob, and audio remote switch detection: Allows individual manual selection of all audio panel knobs, buttons, and remote switches to verify if they are functional. When properly detected, the selected knob, button, or audio remote switch name and/or value is displayed. To exit this mode, go to step 7. Once you exit this test, you must start again at step 1.

NOTE: When you test the USB/AUX button, the test result shows only USB.

No. 3 button

Entire LCD lighting/light-out mode: Turns on/off the entire LCD to show the presence (LCD stuck on) or absence (LCD dead) of an LCD segment.

No. 4 button

Duty indication mode (for the Illumination dim): Indicates the duty for the Illumination dim when the dash lights are on.

No. 5 button

Vehicle speed pulse (VSP) indication mode: Indicates the vehicle speed pulse.

FM button (Push and hold 5 sec)

Reception level indication mode: Indicates the reception level (dB). When entering the reception level check mode, the TITLE button (with navigation) and the A.SEL button (without navigation) turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier on and off.

7. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

Display Specifications

NOTE: Any other diagnostic screens shown are for audio manufacturer's use only.

Entire LCD lighting/lights-outs mode (press No. 3 button)

This diagnostic screen checks for segments that may be dead (off) or stuck on.

All the display segments should be on. If any segments are dead (off), replace the audio-navigation and HVAC switch panel Audio-Navigation and HVAC Switch Panel Removal/Installation or the audio display unit Audio Display Unit Removal/Installation. With all the segments on, press the No. 3 button a second time. The entire display must turn black. If any segments are stuck on, replace the audio-navigation and HVAC switch panel Audio-Navigation and HVAC Switch Panel Removal/Installation, or the audio display unit Audio Display Unit Removal/Installation.

When all the display icons are off, the backlight remains on. When you press preset No. 3 button a third time, the backlight turns off.

NOTE: If you hesitate too long after all the segments are on, the segments turn off automatically.






Illumination level (for the gauge illumination) indication (press No. 4 button)

This diagnostic screen checks the gauge illumination input.

With the headlights on, you should see a values between 1 (max low) and 22 (max high).

When you dim and brighten the gauge with the dimmer knob, you should see this value change accordingly. If it doesn't, check for B-CAN DTCs.

NOTE: On vehicles without navigation system, the value changes from 1-10, then changes to 22 for maximum brightness.






Vehicle speed pulse indication (press No. 5 button)

This diagnostic screen checks that the audio unit is receiving the VSP indication.

When you drive the vehicle, the VSP indicates the vehicle speed in km/h.






Reception level indication (Push and hold 5 sec AM/FM button)

This diagnostic screen checks the radio reception level. This level then can used in the diagnosis of radio reception quality. The reception level is displayed in decibels (dB).

Preparation:

- Park the vehicle outdoors in a location with good radio reception.
- Tune to a powerful local FM radio station, then write down the radio station number.
- Tune to a powerful local AM radio station, then write down the radio station number.

1. Enter the reception level indication mode in the self-diagnostic function. The AM/FM antenna amplifier is on and the character (A) is not displayed in the audio display.





2. Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in preparation using the TUNE button (with navigation) or selector knob (without navigation), and note the decibel level of that station.

3. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or A.SEL button (without navigation) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off (A. SEL (with navigation) or A (without navigation) is now displayed in the audio display).

4. Note the decibel level of that station.

5. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or A.SEL button (without navigation) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on (A. SEL (with navigation) or A (without navigation) is not displayed in the audio display).

6. Press and hold the AM/FM button for more than 5 seconds to enter the AM reception mode.

7. Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in preparation using the TUNE button (with navigation) or selector knob (without navigation), and note the decibel level of that station.

8. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or A.SEL button (without navigation) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off (A. SEL (with navigation) or A (without navigation) is now displayed in the audio display).

9. Note the decibel level of that station.

10. Press and release the TITLE button (with navigation) or A.SEL button (without navigation) to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on (A. SEL (with navigation) or A (without navigation) is not displayed in the audio display).

11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode, or audio system off to exit the test mode.

12. Compare your results to a known-good vehicle, (make sure it is the same year and trim level) in the same location and direction, and under the same environmental conditions.

Speaker Check Mode

NOTE:

- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 3 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob to on.

5. Release the buttons and the speaker check mode begins. A tone should sound from one speaker.

6. Each time you press the SKIP button, the test moves to the next speaker in the order listed in the table.

NOTE: Adjust the volume level to a comfortable level.

7. The speaker check mode ends when you turn the audio system off or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

How to Check the ANC/Active Sound Control System in this Check Mode

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.

3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

4. While holding the buttons, push the VOLUME/POWER () knob to on.

5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.






6. With the engine stopped, and while in DIAG mode, turn the ANC ON to OFF by pressing the No. 1 button. A low frequency hum (50 Hz) should sound for about a minute.

- If the hum does not sound, check for an open in the wire between the ANC/active sound control unit and the audio unit.
- If the hum sounds for a second, check for an open in the wire between ANC/active sound control unit and the microphone.

NOTE: The ANC/active sound control system is cancelled when any door is opened.

7. The self-diagnostic function ends when the audio system is turned off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

XM Self-Diagnosis

NOTE: This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's XM radio reception level. To check the XM reception, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Select XM1 mode.

3. Turn off the audio system.

4. Push and hold the preset No. 3 and No. 6 buttons.

5. Turn on the audio system.

6. Continue holding the buttons for about 5 seconds, then release the buttons.

7. Press and release preset No. 1 button to read the error code.










8. To end the XM self-diagnosis, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

XM Signal Reception Level Indication Mode

NOTE: When you receive any XM complaint, do the XM self-diagnosis to check for any XM error codes first. If there are no XM codes, check the XM signal reception level. To check the XM signal reception, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Select XM2 mode.

3. Turn off the audio system.

4. Push and hold the preset No. 3 and No. 6 buttons.

5. Turn on the audio system.

6. Continue holding the buttons for about 5 seconds, then release the buttons.

7. Press and release preset No. 1 button to read the XM signal reception.






8. To end the XM self-diagnosis, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
