Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the headliner.
- Be careful not to damage the dashboard or other interior trim.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove the front seat belt lower anchor from the seat.

2. Slide both the front seats all the way back, and recline the seat-back fully.

3. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

4. Remove these items:

- A-pillar trims, both sides
- B-pillar upper/lower trims, both sides
- Quarter pillar trims, both sides
- Sunvisors, both sides Service and Repair
- Grab handles, four places Service and Repair
- Rear individual map light Service and Repair

5. Remove the roof console (A).

1. Remove the screws, then pull down the roof console by detaching the clips.

2. Disconnect the roof console connector (B), the panoramic glass roof/sunshade switch connector (C), and the HFL microphone connector (D) (if equipped).





6. If necessary, remove the remaining roof console clips (A) from the body (B).






7. Passenger's side: Disconnect the roof wire harness connector (A) and the antenna read connector (B), and remove the wire harness (C) from the A-pillar by detaching the harness clips (D).






8. From the right rear corner area, disconnect and detach the antenna lead connector (A).






9. Lower the headliner (A).

1. Remove the front door opening seals (B) and the rear door opening seals (C) from each roof area.

2. With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (D) by pulling the rear area of the headliner down.

3. With the help of an assistant, gently pull down the headliner opening to detach the clips (E), and release the fasteners (F) and the magnet (G) and the dual lock (H) by lowering the headliner.





10. With the help of an assistant, pull the headliner (A) along with the wire harnesses out through the tailgate opening.

NOTE: Do not bend the headliner. Bending the headliner will crease and damage it.






11. If necessary, remove the cushion tapes (A) fastening the roof subharness (B) to the headliner (C). Detach the harness clips (D, E), then remove them from the headliner.






12. If necessary, remove the front grab handle bracket (A) and the rear grab handle bracket (B). Take care not to damage the side curtain airbag.

1. Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolts (C, D) and the washer (E).

2. Release the clips (F) holding the grab handle bracket to the side curtain airbag.

13. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and removed trim pieces, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment Service and Repair.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any cracks or breakage in the grab handle (B)
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (C) or the sunvisor holes (D) in the headliner
- Any cracks in the sunvisor stay base (E)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (F)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (G)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (H)
- Any cracks or breakage in the vanity mirror base (I)
- Any fastener bases (J), the stiffeners (K), the magnet (L), or the clip bases (M) which have come off the headliner
- When installing the grab handle, push on the handle against the bracket (N) until the clips (O) snap into place securely.
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Replace the removed cushion tapes with new ones.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body.
- Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.
- When reinstalling the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
