Rear Differential Removal
Special Tools Required
- Driveshaft Remover 07AAD-S3VA000
1. Raise and support the vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Drain the rear differential fluid Rear Differential Fluid Inspection And Replacement.
3. Remove the rear wheels.
4. Remove the lower arm A mounting bolts (A) and the lower arm B mounting bolts (B).
5. Disconnect the inboard joints (A) from the rear differential (B) using the driveshaft remover (C) and a hammer.
6. Pull the knuckle (A) outward, and separate the rear driveshaft inboard joints (B) from the rear differential.
7. Make reference mark (A) across the No. 2 propeller shaft (B) and the rear differential companion flange (C). Separate the No. 2 propeller shaft from the rear differential.
NOTE: Suspend the propeller shaft with an appropriate size nylon strap.
8. Remove the spare tire.
9. Place a transmission jack (A) under the rear differential (B).
10. Remove the rear differential rear mount bolts (C) and the rear differential front mounting bracket bolts (D).
11. Slightly lower the rear differential on the transmission jack.
NOTE: Make sure you do not over extend the wire harness and the breather hose.
12. Disconnect the left solenoid 4P connector (A), then remove the harness clips (B).
13. Disconnect the ground cable (C) from the rear differential.
14. Slightly lower the rear differential on the transmission jack.
15. Disconnect the right solenoid 4P connector (A) and the rear differential fluid temperature sensor 2P connector (B), then remove the clips (C).
16. Disconnect the breather hose (D) from the breather pipe (E).
17. Lower the rear differential on the transmission jack.
18. Remove the set rings (A) from the rear differential.
