SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 87-31, 87-32
DTC 87-31:
Side Airbag Cutoff Indicator Does Not Come ON
DTC 87-32:
Side Airbag Cutoff Indicator Stays ON
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 87-31 or 87-32 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
5. Disconnect the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
7. Measure the voltage between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 18 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Replace the ODS unit Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Go to step 8.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Measure the resistance between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 18 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or dashboard wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
10. Remove the gauge control module Service and Repair. Disconnect gauge control module connector A (20P) from the gauge control module.
11. Measure the resistance between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 18 and gauge control module connector A (20P) terminal No. 11. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Open in the front passenger's seat wire harness, the left side wire harness, the right side wire harness, or the dashboard wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Replace the gauge control module Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and retest.
