VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation

NOTICE
Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint. If brake fluid gets on the paint, wash it off immediately with water.

NOTE:

- Be careful not to damage or deform the brake lines during removal and installation.
- After removal, plug the ends of the hoses and the joints to prevent spilling brake fluid.

Removal

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

2. Remove the right upper fender trim .

3. Remove the A/C line mounting bolt (A).






4. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 36P connector (A) by pushing the lock (B) and pulling up the lever (C); the connector disconnects itself.





5. Remove the wire harness clips (D).

6. Disconnect the 10 mm brake lines (A) and the 12 mm brake lines (B) from the VSA modulator-control unit (C).






7. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir (A) from the power steering fluid reservoir bracket (B).





8. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir bracket from the body.

9. Remove the clip (A), then remove the upper portion of the washer reservoir (B)





10. Remove the flange bolts (C) , then remove the VSA modulator-control unit (D) with the bracket (E) from the body.

11. Remove the VSA modulator-control unit (A) from the bracket (B).






Installation

1. Install the VSA modulator-control unit (A) onto the bracket (B).






2. Install the VSA modulator-control unit (A) with the bracket (B) to the body, then install the flange bolts (C).





3. Install the upper portion of the washer reservoir (D), then install the clip (E).

4. Install the power steering fluid reservoir bracket (A) on the body.





5. Install the power steering fluid reservoir (B) on the power steering fluid reservoir bracket.

6. Connect the 10 mm brake lines and the 12 mm brake lines to the VSA modulator-control unit (A).

NOTE: Brake lines are connected to the master cylinder (B), the left-rear (C), the right-front (D), the left-front (E), and the right-rear (F) brake systems.






7. Install the wire harness clips (A).





8. Align the connecting surface of the VSA modulator-control unit 36P connector (B) to the VSA modulator-control unit.

9. Pull down the lever (C) of the VSA modulator-control unit 36P connector, then confirm the connector is fully seated.

10. Install the A/C line mounting bolt (A).






11. Bleed the brake system Service and Repair.

12. Install the right upper fender trim .

13. Do the VSA modulator-control unit update Testing and Inspection.

14. Do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization procedure Programming and Relearning.

15. Start the engine, and make sure the ABS and the VSA indicators go off.

16. Test-drive the vehicle, and make sure the ABS and the VSA indicators do not come on.

NOTE: If the brake pedal is spongy, there may be air trapped in the modulator which could then be induced into the normal brake system during modulation. Bleed the brake system again Service and Repair.
