Audio System Description

Overview

The audio unit acts as the processor for all audio functions. Select audio functions from the audio unit buttons or the audio remote switch (on the steering wheel). The center display provides the current audio status.

The audio unit has a built-in EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory). This memory holds the audio presets (AM/FM radio frequency, sound settings, etc.) even when the battery is disconnected.

A security signal is daisy-chained between the audio and vehicle components for integration into the vehicle's security system.

There are two audio systems available for the TL:

- The ELS audio system is available on vehicles with navigation. It includes surround sound with 10 speakers.
- The premium audio system is on vehicles without navigation. It includes 8 speakers.










HDD Recording (with navigation)

The navigation system uses a HDD (hard disc drive) and can store music. To record music to the HDD, you must use an original CD or uncompressed CD-R files. The music must be loaded on a CD using the CD player. You cannot load music through the USB adapter or auxiliary jack.

Song By VoiceTM (with navigation)

You can use the voice control to operate the audio system, including the Song By VoiceTM feature.

Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation (SVC)

All audio systems are equipped with speed-sensitive volume compensation (SVC). The audio-navigation unit or the audio unit receives the vehicle speed pulse (VSP) from the ECM/PCM. The system processes the speed input and increases the navigation or the audio system volume level as the vehicle speed increases to compensate for the interior noise that occurs at higher speeds. When the vehicle slows down, the volume returns to its normal level. The SVC has four settings: SVC OFF, SVC LOW, SVC MID, and SVC HIGH that can be adjusted using the audio-navigation unit or the audio unit. The factory default setting is SVC MID.

Telematics Muting Logic

The navigation system provides voice control for the audio, the XM, the USB, the Bluetooth audio, and the CD/DVD player functions. Voice control commands are communicated through the GA-Net (audio unit). When using the TALK/BACK buttons or route guidance (RG), the center speaker is muted and you hear the navigation instructions through the front speakers. When using the HFL/AcuraLink, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and the front speakers give the telephone sound. When using the HFL/AcuraLink and the RG (Route Guidance) or the TALK/BACK buttons, the rear speakers are muted and you hear the telephone sound and navigation instructions through the front speakers. Muting commands are passed on the GA-Net bus. For more information, see the navigation section. The outline of the audio interruption function is shown in the following table.






Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio allows approved Bluetooth cell phones equipped with music function to play music via a car audio system using Bluetooth technology. You can control the phone's music player remotely using the wireless connection.

- You can play music stored in your cell phone using the wireless connection*1.
- You can choose next song, previous song and resume/pause via wireless*2.





Supported Devices

- Bluetooth music phones that support AVRCP 1.0/A2DP 1.0.
- Bluetooth adapters for portable music devices including iPod are not supported.

Pairing a Cell Phone

To pair a cell phone, refer to pairing a cell phone in the HandsFreeLink system. Once a cell phone is paired, the process does not have to be repeated for the phone.

How to Play the Bluetooth Audio

Procedure

1. Press the HDD/AUX button (A) or the AUX button (B) to select Bluetooth Audio source.

NOTE:

- If you press the HDD/AUX button or the AUX button when no cell phone is connected, NO CONNECT is displayed.
- If you see NO CONNECT when you are using the cell phone music function, check that the device is properly paired. If it is paired, the cell phone may not be compatible. See www.acura.com/handsfreelink for more information.
- Music titles and artist names are not displayed.





2. Start playing the music in the paired cell phone.

NOTE: Depending on the cell phone, the music may start automatically, or the user may need to select headset as an audio output.






3. A user can select the next song or the previous song using the SKIP button (A).






4. With navigation, using the interface dial (A) to select [Sound Setup] or [Resume/Pause].
Without navigation, using the Setup button (B) to select audio settings (RESUME/PAUSE and sound settings).






- To turn the Bluetooth audio mode off, select another audio mode (AM/FM, XM, CD/DVD, or USB).

Disc Handing and Cleaning

To avoid damaging or leaving fingerprints on a disc (CD, DVD, DVD-A, etc.), always handle it by the edges and place it in a jewel case whenever it is outside the audio or the audio-navigation unit. Deep scratches or fingerprints on the back of the disc can cause loading problems, poor sound quality, skipping, or other errors.





Smudges and fingerprints can be carefully removed using a mild cleaner and tissues designed to clean eyeglasses. To clean a disc, use a clean soft cloth. Very gently wipe across the disc from the center to the outside edge, never in a circular motion.





Do not place stabilizer rings or labels on the disc.
