TIGHTEN FUEL CAP Message Is On Without DTC P0455 or P0456

SYMPTOM
The client complains that the TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message appears in the MID (multi-information display) without setting a pending or confirmed DTC P0455 or P0456.
The message may be off when the client arrives at the dealer
PROBABLE CAUSE
The PCM misinterprets the purge flow volume.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS.
*SOFTWARE INFORMATION
HDS Software Version:
* 2.026.011 or later (2WD)
3.004.005 or later (SH-AWD)
MVCI Control Module (CM) Update:
Database Update 28.APR.2011 or later (2WD)
14.MAY.2012 or later (SH-AWD)*
Before beginning the repair, make sure that both the HDS and MVCI are updated as listed above.
Do only the update listed in this service bulletin.
Check that the MVCI indicates the applicable program ID listed below (or a later program ID) as the Recommended Update when the update begins.
If the MVCI displays This vehicle does not need an update at this time during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

DIAGNOSIS
1. Check the MID for messages.
Is TIGHTEN FUEL CAP displayed or did the client indicate the message was displayed?
Yes - Go to step 2.
No - This service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.
2. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Are pending or confirmed DTCs P0455 or P0456 indicated?
Yes - Continue with normal troubleshooting for those DTCs.
No - Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Use the HDS to clear PGM-FI DTCs.
2. Update the PGM-FI software with the HDS. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-026, Updating Control Units/ Modules.
3. Delete the TIGHTEN FUEL GAP message in AcuraLink, if equipped.
