DTC Troubleshooting: B1028

DTC B1028:

Rear Window Wiper Motor (As) Signal Circuit Malfunction

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A Troubleshooting - B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).

3. Operate the rear window wiper for at least 15 seconds, then turn the rear window wiper switch OFF.

NOTE: If the wiper motor does not run, go to step 13.

Do the wiper arms stop at AUTO STOP (As) position?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Go to step 5.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1028 indicated?

YES -

Check for loose or poor connections at the passenger's MICU and the rear window wiper motor. If the connections are OK, replace the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Passenger's MICU) Removal and Installation.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Do the rear window wiper motor test.

Is the rear window wiper motor OK?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Replace the rear window wiper motor Wiper Motor Replacement, and recheck.

7. Disconnect the rear window wiper motor 4P connector.

8. Disconnect passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector H (38P).

9. Check for continuity between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 2 and passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector H (38P) terminal No. 32.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 10.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

10. Check for continuity between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to ground in the wire.

NO -

Go to step 11.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

12. Measure the voltage between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there voltage?

YES -

Repair a short to power in the wire.

NO -

Faulty passenger's MICU; replace the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Passenger's MICU) Removal and Installation.

13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

14. Check the No. 4 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?

YES -

Go to step 15.

NO -

Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair the short to ground on the No. 4(10 A) fuse circuit.

15. Do the rear window wiper motor test.

Is the rear window wiper motor OK?

YES -

Go to step 16.

NO -

Replace the rear window wiper motor Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement, and recheck.

16. Reconnect the rear window wiper motor 4P connector.

17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

18. Measure the voltage between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. with the rear window wiper switch ON.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 25.

NO -

Go to step 19.

19. Disconnect passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P).

20. Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P).

21. Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 30 and passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector A (38P) terminal No. 7.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 22.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

22. Disconnect the rear window wiper motor 4P connector.

23. Check for continuity between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 1 and passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box connector H (38P) terminal No. 33.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 24.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

24. Check for continuity between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Faulty rear window wiper motor relay circuit; replace the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Passenger's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Passenger's MICU) Removal and Installation.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire or poor ground (G901).

25. Disconnect the rear window wiper motor 4P connector.

26. Check for continuity between rear window wiper motor 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Check for loose or poor connections at the passenger's MICU and the rear window wiper motor, and recheck.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire or poor ground (G901).
