DTC Troubleshooting: B1384
DTC B1384:
Power Tailgate Closer Unit Half Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction
NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A Troubleshooting - B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.
1. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
2. Close the tailgate manually to the half latch position.
3. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1384 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the tailgate closer unit.
6. Select POWER TAILGATE from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, and enter the DATA LIST.
7. Check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH RATCHET with the DATA LIST.
Is the information indicator OFF?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Go to step 10.
8. Check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH HALF LATCH with the DATA LIST.
Is the information indicator ON?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -
Go to step 17.
9. Turn the tailgate latch to half latch position using a screwdriver and check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH HALF LATCH with the DATA LIST, then turn the tailgate latch to full latch position using a screwdriver and check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH HALF LATCH with the DATA LIST.
Are both information indicators OFF?
YES -
Go to step 10.
NO -
Go to step 24.
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
11. Close the tailgate manually.
12. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
13. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
14. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 10 and No. 11.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
15. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
16. Check for continuity between power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 4 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit .
17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
18. Close the tailgate manually.
19. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
20. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
21. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
NO -
Go to step 22.
22. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
23. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 1 and power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit .
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
24. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
25. Operate the tailgate outer handle to release the tailgate latch, then close the tailgate.
26. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
27. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
28. Turn the tailgate latch to the half latch position using a screwdriver and check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11, then turn the tailgate latch to the full latch position using a screwdriver and check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.
Is there continuity in each condition?
YES -
Go to step 29.
NO -
Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
29. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
30. Check for continuity between power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit .
