DTC Troubleshooting: B1386

DTC B1386:

Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse A Circuit Malfunction

NOTE:

- If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A Troubleshooting - B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.
- If the motor does not operate, do the power tailgate motor test .

1. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.

2. Close the tailgate slowly to the half latch position.

3. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1386 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the drive unit.

5. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

6. Measure the voltage between power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) terminals No. 14 and No. 18 while the power tailgate is opening and closing manually.





Does it alternate between about 0 V and 5 V?NOTE: Digital voltmeter will read about 2.5 V.

YES -

Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connectors B (20P) and C (14P).

9. Disconnect power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P).

10. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) terminals No. 14 and No. 18 and power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P) terminals No. 7 and No. 4 respectively.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire(s).

11. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 13 and power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P) terminal No. 8.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

12. Check for continuity between body ground and power tailgate drive unit connector B (8P) terminals No. 7 and No. 8 individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to ground in the wire(s).

NO -

Go to step 13.

13. Reconnect power tailgate control unit connectors.

14. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

15. Measure the voltage between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 13 and connector B (20P) terminal No. 18.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

NO -

Go to step 16.

16. Measure the voltage between power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) terminals No. 14 and No. 18.





Is there about 5 V?

YES -

Replace the power tailgate drive unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
