HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - Bluetooth audio does not work

Bluetooth audio does not work (without navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
- Make sure the client's cell phone is compatible with the Acura HFL system. See www.acura.com/handsfreelink for more information.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Turn on the audio unit, and press the AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.

Does the audio system change to Bluetooth audio source?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Go to step 5.

3. Check if the Bluetooth device can be played.

Does the Bluetooth audio play?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Register and check the Bluetooth audio device function on a known-good vehicle equipped with Bluetooth audio.

Is the Bluetooth device normal?

YES -

Check online at www.acura.com/handsfreelink or call the HFL call center at 888-528-7876 to make sure the cell phone is compatible with the HFL system and that there are no known issues.

NO -

The Bluetooth device is defective or is not compatible.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Disconnect audio unit connector E (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

7. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 8.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

8. Disconnect XM receiver connector A (14P) and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).

9. Check for continuity between body ground and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shield harness.

NO -

Go to step 11.

11. Reconnect audio unit connector E (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

13. Check if the Bluetooth device can be played.

Does the Bluetooth audio play?

YES -

There is an internal malfunction in the connector for either the XM receiver or the USB adapter control unit.

NO -

Go to step 14.

14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

15. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

16. Reconnect XM receiver connector A (14P) and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).

17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

18. Check for sound in each mode (XM and USB).

Is the sound normal?

YES -

Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation.
