Transmission Temperature Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

ATF Temperature Sensor Test/Replacement

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, or apply the parking brake, block both rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.

2. Remove the left front wheel.

3. Remove the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.

4. Disconnect the shift solenoid wire harness connector.

5. Measure the ATF temperature sensor resistance between shift solenoid wire harness connector terminals No. 6 and No. 7.

- If the resistance is within the standard, the test is complete, reconnect the connector, then install the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.
- If the resistance is out of the standard, go to step 6.

6. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the ATF.

7. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).

8. Do the battery removal procedure Removal and Replacement.

9. Disconnect PCM connectors A, B, and C, then remove the PCM Service and Repair.

10. Remove the battery base.

11. Remove the intake air duct.

12. Remove the ATF dipstick, and remove the harness clamp (A), then remove the ATF dipstick guide tube (B).

13. Remove the shift solenoid valve cover (A), the dowel pins (B), and the gasket (C).

14. Remove the bolt securing the shift solenoid wire harness (A), then remove the shift solenoid wire harness from the transmission housing.

15. Disconnect the connectors from the shift solenoid valves. Then replace the ATF temperature sensor/shift solenoid wire harness assembly (F) and the O-ring (G) with new one.

NOTE: The ATF temperature sensor is not available separately from the shift solenoid wire harness.

16. Connect the shift solenoid valve connectors:

- BLU wire connector to shift solenoid valve A.
- ORN wire connector to shift solenoid valve B.
- GRN wire connector to shift solenoid valve C.
- YEL, WHT, and WHT wire connector to shift solenoid valve D.
- RED wire connector to shift solenoid valve E.

17. Install a new gasket, the dowel pins, and the shift solenoid valve cover.

18. Install a new O-ring on the ATF dipstick guide tube, then install the guide tube with the bolt. Install the ATF dipstick.

19. Check the connector for corrosion, dirt, or oil, and clean or repair if necessary, then connect the connector securely.

20. Install the harness clamp on its clamp bracket.

21. Refill the transmission with ATF ATF Replacement.

22. Install the battery base.

23. Connect PCM connector A, B, and C, then install the PCM Service and Repair.

24. Install the intake air duct.

25. Do the battery installation procedure Removal and Replacement.

26. Install the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.

27. Install the left front wheel.
