The engine cranks but will not start with the remote in the remote slot
1. Turn the keyless access system mode switch OFF.
2. Insert the remote into the remote slot.
3. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
4. Check the immobilizer indicator.
Does the indicator blink once, then stay off?
YES -
Go to the PGM-FI System symptom Troubleshooting.
NO -
Go to step 5.
5. Check the immobilizer indicator.
Is the immobilizer indicator blinking?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Go to step 15.
6. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC).
7. Select REMOTE SLOT CONTROL UNIT from the ONE-PUSH START system select menu with the HDS, and enter SYSTEM INFORMATION.
8. Do the SYSTEM CHECK with the HDS.
Is N-1 OK indicated?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -

9. Select REMOTE SLOT CONTROL UNIT from the ONE-PUSH START system select menu with the HDS, and enter the DATA LIST.
10. Check the ESL SW B in the DATA LIST.
Is the indicator ON?
YES -
Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original PCM Service and Repair. If not, replace the remote slot control unit.
NO -
Go to step 11.
11. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Disconnect the remote slot control unit 40P connector.
13. Disconnect the electric steering lock 12P connector.
14. Check for continuity between electric steering lock 12P connector terminal No. 11 and remote slot control unit 40P connector terminal No. 30.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the remote slot control unit.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
15. Select GAUGES from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu with the HDS.
16. Select FUNCTIONAL TESTS from the TEST MODE menu with the HDS, and enter SELF TEST.
Does the immobilizer indicator come on?
YES -
Go to the PGM-FI System symptom Troubleshooting.
NO -
Replace the gauge control module Service and Repair, and recheck.
