Trailing Arm: Service and Repair




Rear Trailing Arm Removal/Installation

1. Raise and support the vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the rear wheel.

3. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.

4. Remove the parking brake cable mounting bolts from the backing plate.

5. Remove the parking brake cable nut (A) from the trailing arm (B).






6. Disconnect the brake line (A) from the brake hose (B), then remove the brake hose clip (C).

NOTE:

- After removal, plug the ends of the hoses and joints to prevent spilling brake fluid.

- Use the new brake hose clip during reassembly.





7. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bolt (D).

8. Remove the flange nuts (A) from the trailing arm (B).

NOTE: Use new flange nuts during reassembly.






9. Remove the flange bolts (A) from the trailing arm, then remove the trailing arm.

NOTE: Use new flange bolts during reassembly.





10. Install the trailing arm in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the bolts and the nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque.
- Do the parking brake adjustment.
- Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the MAX (upper) level line, and bleed the brake system. Check for a leak at the brake hose/line joint, and retighten it if necessary Service and Repair.
- Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel.

11. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary Service and Repair.
