Drum Brake System: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

Rear Drum Brake, Self-Adjusting:

Brakes automatically adjust as necessary during every brake pedal application. Fixed clearance between brake shoes and brake drum is set when pressing and releasing brake pedal.

OPERATION

When brake linings wear, movement of brake shoes is greater than fixed clearance. At this point adjusting wedge is moved down further by spring tension into pushrod slot. This automatically assures proper brake shoe adjustment.
