Outside mirror assemblies are supplied by two manufacturers. They are identified by a number located on bottom of assembly housing.
Housing number 17103 - electric/manual - Coupe only 17089 - electric/manual - 4000
Mirror glass replacement - manually operated
Work sequence
- tape lower edge of mirror housing
- push mirror glass off ball pin using tool 80-200
- press stop hook down (arrow)
- pull glass from adjusting rod
- installation is in reverse of removal
Note
Housing 17103 - Coupe only
^ remove upper spring (arrow) from replacement glass
Housing 17089 - Audi 4000
^ do not remove springs (arrows) from replacement glass
CAUTION Push glass back on ball pin by applying pressure at center of mirror only. Wear protective gloves to prevent injury if glass breaks.
Mirror glass replacement - electric
Housing 17103 - Coupe only
Work sequence
- center notches on clamping ring over slot at bottom of mirror housing
- hold mirror and turn clamping ring counterclockwise with screwdriver
- unplug electrical connections and remove mirror from housing
- to install, press mirror to base making sure fastening pins (arrows) fit into slot on clamping ring
Note
Insure that dust cover is properly fitted on mirror assembly.
- tighten clamping ring until pin is centered over slot on mirror bottom
- check mirror for proper function
Mirror glass replacement - electric
Housing 17089 - Audi 4000
CAUTION
Replacement mirror glass is supplied only with clamping ring. Check for notches at slot at bottom of mirror housing. If slots are seen, replacement procedure is identical to electric mirror housing No. 17103.
Work sequence, first replacement
- tape upper/lower edge of housing
- using Tool 80-200, pry mirror glass off at top and bottom of securing ring
- hold mirror, unplug electrical connections
- reinstall in same manner as housing 17103
- check mirror for proper function
