Front and rear brackets

Work sequence

Removing

- remove screw in center bracket

CAUTION

To avoid damaging the paint, cover the areas around the front and rear brackets with 50 mm (2 in.) tape.

- remove grub screws from front and rear brackets
- lift rail off at front and rear brackets (rock rail slightly to remove)
- remove seals

Installing
- set height of threaded studs by fitting shims
^ shim thickness = 1.0 mm setting dimensions:
^ front bracket a = 22 mm
^ rear bracket b = 19.5 mm tightening torque:
^ 46 N-m +/- 2 (34 ft.lb. +/- 1.5)



Note

Measure the setting of the front stud at the front of the stud (front of vehicle). Measure the setting of the rear stud at the rear of the stud (rear of vehicle).
- place plastic spacer over mounting location and align center of hole with stud or threaded hole
- mark spacer at centerline of hole
- clean area to be covered by spacer
- pull protective paper off bottom of spacer
- align mark with stud or hole and stick spacer to roof. Align notches with edge of water channel (arrows)

- pull top protective paper off
- insert front and rear seals in holes in roof
- place rubber washers on brackets
- push seal on center brackets

- install brackets on front and rear at same time and align center bracket
- check center bracket sealing ring for damage and replace if necessary
- tighten center bracket screw lightly

- screw in grub screws (tap brackets lightly with a rubber mallet while tightening)
^ tightening torque: 10 N-m +/- 1 (7 ft.lb. +/- .5)
- tighten center bracket screws
^ tightening torque: 23 N-m +/- 2 (17 ft.lb. +/- 1)
- check that rubber washers are seated properly
