Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Throttle Switch Connector:

Fault Diagnosis Procedure

The throttle switches and brake light switch must be checked first.
- Idle switch -
0 ohms with throttle closed
infinite ohms with throttle open more than 4°

- Full throttle switch
infinite ohms with throttle closed
0 ohms with throttle fully open

- Brake light switch -
brake lights on with key on and pedal depressed
brake light off when pedal is released

Do not turn OFF the ignition after road test or starter operation

With engine idling or ignition key ON, and the idle switch closed, manually close the full throttle switch for at least 3 seconds. The tachometer should then read about 7000 RPM.

When both throttle switches are closed simultaneously for 3 seconds the memory call up is activated and the tachometer will then read 7000 RPM. Stored faults will be displayed in sequence or steps. By operating the brake light switch the procedure is moved to the next step.

The sequence will not repeat. Therefore, if a fault is found, the diagnosis procedure should be repeated after the fault is repaired to insure that no other faults exist.
