Modifications to correct low or no heater output

C
Number

July 31, 1984
Low or no heat output could be caused by a binding Bowden cable preventing the programmer from regulating the heater control flap.

Two modifications are now used in production:
^ Bowden cable with anti-kink sleeve installed as of March, 1984
^ programmer with modified resistor and auxiliary spring installed as of February, 1984 VIN E 125106.

In response to complaints of low or no heat output on earlier vehicles, perform the following:

Work sequence

- replace Bowden cable from programmer to heater control flap with anti-kink cable P/N 443 820 837B (arrow one)
- remove assist spring from heater flap connecting arm and save (arrow two)
- test and evaluate system
If problem is still present, continue as follows:
- replace programmer with new version (part number is unchanged.)

Note

Spare parts programmer is not equipped with an auxiliary spring. This spring must be installed by dealer before programmer is installed in vehicle.

Old assist spring from heater flap linkage can be used on new programmer.

Holes for spring and clip are already drilled.
