Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Open heater control valve, remove cap from expansion tank, and drain coolant by disconnecting lower radiator hose.
3. Remove intake hose from injector cooling blower motor.
4. Remove upper radiator cover screws and the cover, then the upper radiator hose.
5. Disconnect coolant fan electrical connector, then remove coolant hose between radiator and expansion tank.
6. Remove bleeder hose to auxiliary radiator, then disconnect thermoswitch electrical connector.
7. Remove radiator mountings, then the right side and bottom radiator covers.
8. Remove windshield washer reservoir.
9. Disconnect refrigerant lines at A/C condenser, then remove radiator and condenser as an assembly.
10. Remove upper compressor mounting bracket attaching bolts and the compressor to bracket attaching bolts, then remove compressor and bracket.
11. Remove power steering pump and its drive belt, positioning pump out of way without disconnecting hoses.
12. Disconnect coolant hose at thermostat housing.
13. Disconnect electrical connectors at oil pressure switch, temperature gauge sender, and control pressure regulator.
14. Remove injector cooling air distributor, hose and motor.
15. Remove control pressure regulator, leaving fuel lines attached.
16. Remove throttle cable.
17. Remove holder for injector lines and pull out injectors.
18. Disconnect electrical connector and remove cold start valve, leaving fuel line connected.
19. Disconnect electrical connectors of the two throttle valve switches and intake temperature switch, then disconnect air intake hose and position wiring out of way.
20. Disconnect electrical connector of auxiliary air regulator, the vacuum hoses, engine breather hose, and the electrical connector of the injector cooling fan and position wiring out of way.
21. Disconnect vacuum hoses of two-way valve.
22. Remove thermo pneumatic valve, leaving vacuum hoses connected.
23. Remove RPM sensor, then disconnect speedometer cable at transmission.
24. Remove distributor and the No. 4 ignition wire from the distributor.
25. Disconnect electrical connector for Hall sender at distributor, then the connectors for the thermotime switch and overheating warning lamp.
26. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
27. Disconnect hydraulic brake booster with reservoir from motor mount, leaving lines connected.
28. Disconnect electrical connectors for differential lock control lights and back-up light switch.
29. Disconnect tie rod bracket on steering rack.
30. Disconnect shift linkage.
31. Remove clutch slave cylinder, leaving hydraulic line connected, then the bracket and pin from the transmission. Do not operate clutch pedal after removing slave cylinder.
32. Disconnect ground strap from left engine mount and the vacuum hose from the auxiliary air valve.
33. Remove oil cooler air duct, then the intercooler.
34. Disconnect alternator electrical connectors.
35. Remove oil cooler, leaving lines connected, then disconnect starter electrical connectors.
36. Disconnect exhaust pipe at flange.
37. Remove transmission cover plates and right side transmission mount.
38. Disconnect axle shafts at transmission.
39. Disconnect differential lock cable by removing front and rear circlip, pushing back boot, and disconnecting cable from mounting.
40. Remove transmission mounting bolt, then the transmission mounts.
41. Remove attaching bolts for ball joints.
42. Disconnect rear subframe mounts.
43. Remove front subframe mounting bolts, then remove subframe and press ball joint out of strut.
44. Attach suitable lifting device to engine lift points and lift slightly.
45. Remove side engine mounts and lower engine and transmission assembly.
46. Raise and support vehicle and remove assembly from under vehicle, then separate engine from transmission.
47. Reverse procedure to install, torquing nuts and/or bolts as follows:
a. Cold start valve and M6 intercooler, 7 ft.lbs.
b. Control pressure regulator, hydraulic brake servo to engine mount, ground strap to engine mount, and M8 intercooler, 14 ft.lbs.
c. Exhaust pipe flange, 18 ft.lbs.
d. M8 engine to transmission, exhaust pipe to transmission mount, and oil cooler, 22 ft.lbs.
e. Tie rod bracket to steering rack and engine mount to body, 29 ft.lbs.
f. M10 engine to transmission, driveshaft to transmission, and transmission mount, 32 ft.lbs.
g. Ball joint to strut, 36 ft.lbs.
h. M12 engine to transmission, 43 ft.lbs.
i. Subframe to body, 51 ft.lbs.
j. Axle shafts to transmission, 58 ft.lbs.
