Cigarette Lighter Does Not Work

Condition

Cigarette lighter element will not lock in lighter socket -U1- for heating process.

Retaining tabs (2) in the lighter socket are pushed out of the socket too far to hold the lighter element in place for the heating process. Generally, this is caused by using the lighter socket as a power outlet for accessories such as cell phone chargers, radar detectors, etc.

Service

- Remove cigarette lighter fuse.

- Remove lighter element.

Note:
Socket shown removed for clarity Do not remove lighter socket from vehicle.





- Using a flat blade screwdriver, bend retaining tabs (2) inward -arrow-.

- Install lighter element and fuse.

- Test operation several times to ensure lighter pops out and functions normally.
