Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
The control unit fault memory will automatically store information on defects in the knock sensor, or manifold pressure systems. This information can be displayed by way of blink codes from the 'check engine' light in the instrument cluster.
To perform the diagnosis procedure, a specific sequence must be followed. It is important to know that the fault memory is erased whenever the ignition is turned OFF. Do not turn the ignition OFF while performing the diagnosis.
If a fault is detected in the ignition system, the indicator light in the instrument cluster will come on and stay on. When the fault memory in the control unit is called up, the indicator light will flash a certain number of times to indicate the problem.
