4 Cyl. Engines (1.8L) M.Y. 1985-87
Cause: Excessive radial play on piston pin. Axial knocking of connecting rod against crankshaft, excessive radial tolerance on piston rod bearings.
Production: N/A
Service: Repair engine prior to above VIN by using crankshaft/connecting rod conversion kit, P/N 026-198-399C. (For 1.8L engines only). Kit consists of following parts:
1 crankshaft with cross-drilled oil
passages
4 connecting rods with center drilled
oil passages to piston rod pins
4 piston pins
1 set connecting rod caps with oil
drilling
Note # 1. On vehicles before M.Y. 1986
(54 mm piston pins) or in which previous repair kits were used, piston assemblies must be replaced in conjunction with new crankshaft and piston rod kits (Engine code MG - piston P/N 026 107 065R).
Note # 2. When replacing pistons, supplied
piston pins must be scrapped and replaced with 57 mm pins from new kit.
Previous kits (P/Ns 026-198-399 and 026-198-399A) are no longer supplied.
