Instrument Cluster and Computer, Removing/Installing/Testing

Instrument Cluster:

Instrument Cluster removing/installing

Work sequence

- pull horn pad from steering wheel
- unbolt steering wheel and remove
- loosen clamp (arrow) and pull switch assembly forward

Instrument Cluster Mounting Screws:

- remove instrument cluster mounting screws (arrows)
- pull instrument cluster out of instrument panel
- remove electrical connectors from instrument cluster

Computer:

Computer, removing/installing

Work sequence

- remove instrument cluster
- remove screws from instrument panel base plate and pull from frame
- disconnect printed circuit connector from voltage stabilizer
- unclip printed circuit in area of speedometer

Speedometer:

- remove screws from speedometer (arrows)
- pull speedometer forward out of instrument panel base plate

Screws from Tachometer:

- remove screws from tachometer (arrows)
- pull tachometer forward out of instrument panel base plate

Base Plate:

- remove computer module from base plate
- unclip display unit (front and back) from base plate (arrows)
- pull computer module and display unit out of base plate
Note

When installing tachometer with computer, be sure that contact pins of computer module fit exactly into sockets and that the 10 point connector for computer is located in the opening of the base plate.
Computer, functional testing

Note

It is possible to check the condition of the various components of the computer by selecting the individual functions in the specified sequence.

If defective components are found, check wiring using the current flow diagram.

Always perform complete test procedure for functional testing.

Check these first:
Fuses S12, S4 OK

Reset Button:

Checking
- switch ignition OFF
- press reset button and hold
- switch ignition ON (continue pressing reset button)

Code Display:

- check illustration or code table for proper code

If proper code is displayed, - switch ignition OFF
- check country code

If proper code is NOT displayed, - check function selector switch, - repeat test

If code is NOT displayed or displayed incorrectly, - check fuel consumption sender, - repeat test

If code is NOT displayed or displayed incorrectly, - check computer, or install correct computer module
