Country Code, Average Speed/Fuel and Range Display Check
FUNCTION SELECTORS SWITCH:
Country code, checking
- switch ignition OFF
- press reset button and hold
- switch ignition ON
- release reset button
- push function selectors switch and hold until end of selections
COUNTRY CODE DISPLAY:
- check country code display (illustration)
^ EU for Europe GB for Great Britain US for USA CA for Canada* SA for Saudi Arabia* JA for Japan
*The display for country codes CA/SA alternates two times per second.
If code is displayed, - turn ignition OFF
- check average speed (0 mph) page
If correct country code is NOT displayed, - replace computer module
Function Selector Switch:
Average speed display (0 MPH), checking
Work sequence
- switch ignition ON
- select 0 MPH function with function selector switch
- press reset button for 2 seconds (while driving vehicle)
Instantaneous Speed Display:
- check display
^ instantaneous speed (speed you are travelling at while driving) is displayed
If instantaneous speed is displayed, - check average fuel consumption (0 MPG) display
If instantaneous speed is NOT displayed, - check function selector switch
Note
Speed must be displayed on speedometer.
If speed is displayed on speedometer, - repair break in wiring using current flow diagram
If speed is NOT displayed on speedometer, - check speedometer sensor
Function Selector Switch:
Average fuel consumption display (0 MPG), checking
Work sequence
- switch ignition ON
- select 0 MPG function with the function selector switch
- press reset button for 5 seconds (while driving)
Instantaneous Average Fuel Consumption Display:
- check display
^ instantaneous average fuel consumption
If average fuel consumption is correctly displayed, - check range (Mi).
If average fuel consumption is NOT displayed, - check fuel consumption sender
Connector:
Note
If fuel consumption reading is 200 mpg (5 1/100 km) after repeated resetting, there is a break in wiring of contact 3 of fuel consumption sender or wires from contact 1 and 3 are reversed.
If fuel consumption reading is 5 mpg, (0 1/100 km) there is a break in wiring from contacts 1 and/or 2 on the fuel consumption sender.
If consumption display NOT OK, - check fuel consumption sender
Reset Button:
Range display, mi------> ^
(km------> ^), checking
Note
In the following test, computer calculations are based on an average consumption of 10 1/100 km regardless of the display units.
Example: with 60 liters fuel in the tank, 600 km is displayed
Work sequence
- switch ignition OFF
- press reset button and hold
- switch ignition ON
- release reset button
Fuel Tank Content Display:
- check display
^ fuel tank content x 10
If fuel tank content x 10 is displayed, - check fuel consumption correction factor.
If fuel tank content x 10 is NOT displayed, fuel tank content must be indicated on fuel gauge in instrument cluster.
If fuel tank content is NOT indicated by gauge, - check fuel gauge.
If fuel tank content is indicated on gauge, - check wiring between fuel gauge and computer using current flow diagram
If wiring is OK, - replace computer
