Electronic Display and Trip Computer
ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER:
Since January 1986 a fully electronic instrument cluster with an integrated trip computer has been installed in the Audi Coupe GT.
This Product Circular contains a troubleshooting guide and all necessary repair instructions.
The instrument cluster is composed of an electronic display and trip computer.
Electronic display
The electronic display shows the following:
^ engine RPM
^ speed (MPH or KPH)
^ time
^ engine coolant temperature
^ fuel tank content
The number of displays on the instrument cluster can be changed by pushing the button on the end of the instrument panel light dimmer.
Note
If a warning condition occurs while the instrument cluster is in the minimum display mode, the display will automatically switch back to maximum display.
These warning conditions are:
^ low fuel level
^ fuel range
^ engine coolant temperature
^ engine coolant level
Trip computer
The trip computer display is in the left hand display field of the instrument cluster.
Trip computer functions are selected by pushing the rocker-type function selector switch.
The function selector switch selects the following:
^ driving time
^ average fuel consumption
^ driving range
^ average speed
The function selector switch also does the following:
^ set clock
^ change measuring system
^ change distance travelled
The reset button is used to cancel the following:
^ average fuel consumption
^ average speed
^ driving time
