Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection
Intake air temperature sensor, checkingWork sequence
Note: The intake air temperature sensor is located in the inter cooler outlet.
- Without unplugging connector, slide back protective boot (arrow) and connect ohmmeter between terminals of intake air temperature sensor
^ Specification: 400-700 ohm
If specification OK
- Check wiring between sensor and control unit as follows
- Remove control unit cover panel located on passenger side footwell
- Unplug control unit connector
- Connect ohmmeter between terminal 23 of control unit connector and terminal 1 of air temperature sensor
^ Specification: 0.0 ohms
- Connect ohmmeter between terminal 23 of control unit connector and terminal 2 of air temperature sensor
^ Specifications: from 400-700 ohms
- Connect ohmmeter between terminal 24 of control unit connector and terminal 1 of air temperature sensor
^ Specification: from 400-700 ohms
- Connect ohmmeter between terminal 24 of control unit connector and terminal 2 of air temperature sensor
^ Specification: approx. 0.0 ohms
If specifications NOT OK
- Cut wires at intake air temperature sensor terminals and check as follows
- Connect ohmmeter between open terminals 1 and 2 of intake air temperature sensor
^ Specification: from 400-700 ohms
If NO
- Replace sensor
Note: Intake air temperature sensor must always be soldered when wires have been cut to insure proper electrical characteristics are maintained.
If sensor OK
- Check for short circuit in wiring between control unit and air temperature sensor
If wiring OK
- Replace control unit
- Repeat test
Removing/installing
Work sequence
- Push back cover on intake air temperature sensor (arrow)
- Cut off wires at sensor
- Remove sensor
- Remove protective cover and install new sensor
- Fit rubber insulator and protective cover over wiring
- Fit terminal lugs on bared wires and solder to sensor contacts
- Push rubber insulator over soldered joints
- Push protective cover onto sensor
