Output Test General Information

Fig. 18 Fault Code output Flowchart:

The control unit is designed to check the operation of certain components by generating specific output signals. To activate this part of the diagnosis procedure, a specific sequence must be followed. During the tests, the components being tested can be checked by listening to see if they are operating. If a problem is found, first check the components resistance with an ohmmeter for open or short circuits before checking the wiring or the control unit.
To perform the output tests:
1. Turn the ignition OFF to erase the fault memory.
2. Turn the ignition back ON. Do not crank or start the engine. If the engine is cranked over or started, the system will automatically switch to the input test mode when the diagnosis procedure is activated.
3. Insert a spare fuse into the socket on top of the fuel pump relay for at least 4 seconds, then remove it. The first step of the output tests is now activated. Continue complete diagnosis as shown in Fig. 18.
There are 5 tests in the procedure:
Fuel pump
Oxygen sensor frequency valve
Wastegate frequency valve
Cold start valve
Charcoal canister shut-off valve
The output test sequence will repeat, beginning with step #1, when step #5 is completed. All tests must be performed in sequence, individual tests are not possible.
