5 Cylinder Engine W/Automatic Transmission


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Open heater control valve, remove expansion tank cap, and drain cooling system by disconnecting hose at bottom of radiator.
3. Remove engine/transmission bolt securing coolant pipe, loosen clamp, and disconnect hose from pipe.
4. Remove upper radiator shroud, disconnect radiator hoses and cooling fan connections.
5. Remove bolts securing radiator and remove as an assembly with cooling fan.
6. Disconnect vacuum hoses at brake booster and cruise control transducer.
7. Loosen power steering pump and remove belt. Remove mounting bolts and remove power steering pump, leaving hoses connected.
8. Loosen clamp and remove hose from thermostat housing.
9. Disconnect wiring harness connectors at oil pressure switch and control pressure regulator, remove harness clamps and lay wiring aside.
10. Remove throttle pushrod.
11. Remove control pressure regulator, leaving hoses connected.
12. Loosen clamp and disconnect coolant hose at rear of cylinder head from pipe.
13. Remove bolts securing alternator and lower alternator onto lower radiator cover.
14. Remove alternator bracket and front stop from engine.
15. Loosen clamps and remove air duct.
16. Label, then disconnect all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from engine.
17. Remove fuel injectors and cold start valve. Leave all fuel lines connected. Protect injectors and cold start valve with caps.
18. Remove fuel distributor with air flow sensor plate and disconnect fuel feed and return lines.
19. Disconnect PCV hose at valve cover, release upper air filter housing clips, and remove bolt securing air filter housing.
20. Disconnect wiring harness connectors at points indicated.
21. Disconnect heater hoses and transmission cooler lines, and remove hose flange ``C'' from engine block.
22. Remove cover from right engine mount, loosen nuts on right and left engine mounts, and remove ground strap from engine mount.
23. Remove all upper engine to transmission bolts except one bolt that is accessible.
24. Disconnect wiring harness connector at oil temperature switch and compressor clutch.
25. Loosen air conditioning compressor adjusting bolts, remove front clamping bolt, and remove bracket on front of engine.
26. Remove upper compressor mounting bolts and remove compressor, leaving hoses connected.
27. Disconnect wiring harness and battery cable connectors from starter motor.
28. Remove both front subframe bolts.
29. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold and front bracket and remove pipe.
30. Remove bolts securing starter, then the starter motor.
31. Remove three bolts securing torque converter to drive plate through starter hole.
32. Remove lower bolts securing engine to transmission.
33. Disconnect shift rod at transmission.
34. Support transmission and attach suitable lifting equipment to engine.
35. Remove remaining bolt securing engine to transmission, raise engine and pry engine from transmission.
36. Continue to lift engine, while turning to left, and guide engine from vehicle.
37. Reverse procedure to install, leaving engine mount bolts hand tight. Torque engine mount bolts to 32 ft.lbs. with engine running at idle.
