Installation

CAUTION: Before installing cylinder head, turn crankshaft so pistons are at approximately equal distances below TDC. Otherwise, engine damage may result.

Exploded View of Engine:

1. Clean cylinder head and engine block mating surfaces. Install cylinder head gasket dry with part number facing UP. DO NOT use sealing compound. Hold gasket in position using tool No. 2083 or equivalent guide pins at No. 9 and No. 10 bolt positions.

2. Install cylinder head using bolt Nos. 11 and 12 first to center head.
3. Remove guide pins and install remaining bolts. Torque in sequence shown in Fig. 3. as follows:

Stage 1---29 Ft. Lbs.
Stage 2---44 Ft. Lbs.
Stage 3---180° in one movement

4. Install rear drive belt cover, timing belt and front cover.
5. Install valve cover.
6. Reconnect exhaust pipe, injector hoses, and coolant hoses.
7. Fill cooling system with NEW coolant.

NOTE: Do NOT re-use coolant. When replacing any major component which requires draining the cooling system, ALWAYS refill with NEW coolant.

8. Reconnect engine wiring.
9. Start engine and warm up to operating temperature. Re-check for leaks and correct as necessary.
