Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

When replacing cylinder head, refer to ``Camshaft, Replace'' and note the following:
1. Loosen cylinder head bolts in reverse of tightening sequence, Fig. 6.
2. Clean cylinder head and engine block mating surfaces thoroughly.
3. Install new dry cylinder head gasket using no sealant and ensuring that OBEN mark faces cylinder head.
4. When installing cylinder head, insert bolts 8 and 10 first to center head.
5. On vehicles with M11 cylinder head bolts, torque bolts in sequence in 3 steps to 29 and 43 ft.lbs., then an additional half turn.
6. On vehicles with cylinder head bolts other than M11, torque bolts in sequence in 4 steps to 29, 43, and 54 ft.lbs., then an additional quarter turn.
