Throttle Full Open Switch: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 8 Test Harness VW 1501:
Fig. 45 Throttle Position Protractor:
1. Connect test harness (VW 1501) Fig. 8, between the throttle switch and the harness plug.
2. Connect a voltmeter to terminals 2 and 3 of the test harness.
With the ignition ON, and the throttle in the idle position, battery voltage should be available.
With the throttle completely open, 0 volts should be available.
3. Check the wiring between terminals 31 (switch) and 35 (ground) on the injection control unit plug.
With the throttle in the idle position, the circuit should be open (infinite resistance.
With the throttle completely open, the circuit should be closed (less than 0.2 ohms resistance).
4. Install a protractor (tool 3084 or equivalent, Fig. 45) to the throttle shaft, and the pointer to the throttle housing.
5. Open the throttle to the stop and zero the protractor.
6. Close the throttle about 20°, then slowly open until the switch closes (0 vdc on the meter). Switch should close at 8° - 12° before the full throttle stop.
7. If necessary, adjust by loosening the switch mounting screws and moving the switch.
