AM Radio - Popping Noise When Applying Brakes


Cause:
Electrical arc from stoplight and/or direction indicator light.

Production:
Some M.Y. 1988 vehicles may have an EMI (electromotive interference) suppression harness/capacitor installed.

Service:
Check harness to stoplight for harness/capacitor, P/N 893 971 379, installed at stoplight switch. If not equipped, install harness. If equipped, replace stoplight switch, P/N 443 945 515. Check ground connections at direction light sockets and harness ground points.

Further suppression under investigation by AUDI AG.
