Ignition Timing: Adjustments

The ignition timing should only need adjustment if the distributor has been removed.
1. Insert a 10A fuse in the socket on top of the fuel pump relay. After four seconds, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster should light indicating that the ignition timing is stabilized for testing purposes.
2. With a timing light, check the ignition timing at idle.
Timing should be 15° +/- 1° BTDC. Adjust as necessary.

NOTE: The ignition distributor has an anti-tamper cover installed over the distributor hold down bolt. To adjust the timing, the shear bolt that secures the cover must be removed to gain access to the hold down bolt. Replace the shear bolt and the cover after adjustment.

3. Remove fuse from the fuel pump relay, and briefly raise the engine speed above 2500 rpm to cancel the fault display.
4. If ignition timing was changed, recheck fuel mixture.
