Adaptor Usage - For Aiming Aerodynamic Headlights

Subject: Adaptor usage for mechanically aiming aerodynamic headlights

Aiming requirements

Before checking headlight aim

- place vehicle on flat surface

Note

It is not necessary that the surface be exactly level.

- remove any large accumulations of mud or ice from wheel wells, fender undersides, bumpers etc.
- check tire pressures, correct if necessary
- verify that vehicle has no loading other than driver
- rock vehicle to equalize suspension
- clean headlight lenses and aiming pads
- check for bulb burnout, broken aiming pads and proper beam switching. Correct if necessary

Setting up adaptors

Note

Two adaptors are available for mechanical aiming equipment. Choose the correct adaptor for the type of headlight being adjusted. Use either the 0202 (small pad pattern) or 0203 (large pad pattern) adaptor.

- locate aim settings on face of headlight lens
Note

The settings will be designated by the letters V and H, each followed by a number. The V number will be at the top aiming pad. This is the vertical setting. The H number is the outside aiming pad and is the horizontal setting. The inside aiming pad is always set to ZERO.

- move adjustable rods of adaptor to correspond to settings found on headlight
- attach aiming device to adaptor
- mount assembly to headlight lens. See Fig. 2

- check headlight aim using mechanical aiming procedure provided by equipment manufacturer
- correct if necessary
