Cause:

Insufficient torque of subframe and control arm bolts.

Production change:

Upgraded torquing procedure.

Service Solution:

Replace bolts/washers and torque to specification. Hole in subframe must be free of wax.

CAUTION

Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest information.



CAUTION

Always replace all bolts, washers and self-locking nuts that secure suspension components, e.g. subframe, control arms, stabilizer bar, ball joints, etc., when repairing these components.


Note

Inspect subframe for visible damage before replacing bolts.

^ remove subframe bolt and washer 1
^ remove wax from threads of nut in body with brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner
^ dry threads with compressed air
^ install new bolt and washer
^ torque to 35 N-m (25 ft.lb.)
^ repeat above steps on remaining bolts/ washers/nuts 2, 3, and 4

Note

Only remove and replace one bolt/washer at a time.

^ with vehicle weight on suspension tighten each subframe bolt an additional 1/4 turn (use a vehicle ramp or drive-on hoist)
^ check control arm bolts for tightness and replace if loose
^ torque to 65 N-m (48 ft.lb.) with vehicle weight on suspension (use a vehicle ramp or drive-on hoist)
