Heating elements, replacing
Cloth seats
Factory installed seat/backrest heating elements are sewn into upholstery material.
Note
Only Part Number 443 963 555 S is used as replacement element
.
CAUTION
Part numbers are listed for reference only. Always consult with the Parts Department for latest information.
Work sequence
- Remove seat from vehicle
- Disconnect defective heating element
- Remove seat/backrest cover
Note:
Defective element remains in seat/backrest.
CAUTION
Take care NOT to cut through or into old element.
- Cut defective element wires as short as possible
- Turn cover upside down on workbench
Fig 1. Replacing Heating Element:
- Position replacement heating element on seat/backrest cover
- First crosspiece on seat/backrest has no element
- Mark and cut slits at both sides of foam packing of cover
Note:
Replacement element goes over old element.
- Insert replacement element with wood ruler
- Fold over and tuck extending element material back into cover (as shown) in Fig 1.
- Fasten heating element to foam packing with upholstery clips
- Connect electrical wires
- Install cover
- Reinstall seat in vehicle
- Check seat/backrest heating for proper function
