Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable2. Remove upper engine to transmission attaching bolts.
3. Disconnect speedometer sender electrical connector by pressing in clips.
4. Remove clutch slave cylinder attaching bolt, then the cylinder. Leave hydraulic line connected.
5. Install engine support 10-222 A or equivalent, then remove lower splash shield.
6. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
7. Remove right side guard plate, then disconnect axle shafts from flanges. Rest axle shafts on subframe.
8. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connector, then pry off shift and adjusting rods.
9. Remove lower engine to transmission attaching bolts, then the start motor.
10. Remove guard plate from subframe.
11. Install holding fixtures Nos. US 618 and US 618 1 or equivalents, or transmission jack, then lift transmission slightly.
12. Remove both rear subframe mounting bolts, then both transmission support bolts from subframe.
13. Remove tension cable bracket, then push tensioning system cable and bracket off of retainer. Retainer can only be removed with transmission out of vehicle.
14. Remove right side transmission bracket, pull transmission off dowel sleeves, then lower from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lubricate main shaft splines lightly with MoS2 powder or equivalent.
b. Inspect gear shift adjustment.
c. Tighten nuts and bolts to specifications.
