Special Tool - Required to Repair AWD Transmissions

Subject: SPECIAL TOOL 3116 CLAMPING SLEEVE AUTOMATIC SHIPMENT AT-109 (MINIMUM REQUIREMENT)


With the announcement of warranty circular A-91-11 dated 15. MAR, 1991, repairs to certain all wheel drive transmissions are now permitted. Additional special tools will be required in order to accomplish these repairs. The number of tools needed depends on the option selected by the dealer.








A new minimum requirement tool is clamping sleeve 3116. It will be required for all repairs and supplied with Automatic Shipment AT-109.


OPTION 1: General Repairs - any repair(s) that does not require adjustment of the ring and pinion.

If this option is selected the following tools will be necessary;


3116 - Clamping sleeve - used to hold the hollow shaft onto the
pinion shaft along with some other operations. This tool will be shipped automatically via AT-109.


V W 459 - Press Appliance - used to install bearings and races.
Formally an optional tool now upgraded to minimum requirement.
Please check your inventory and order as required.


21/4 - Kukko Puller - used to remove bearings along with other
(22-28 mm) operations. Formally an optional tool now
upgraded to minimum requirement. Please check your inventory and order as required.


OPTION 2: Major Repairs - complete unit overhauls.

If this option is selected option 1 tools will be required along with the following;


3138 - Drift - New optional tool used to remove bearing
races.


3062 - Thrust Pad - New optional tool used to install bearing
races along with other operations.


V W 385/33 - End Gauge - New optional tool used to set up ring
and pinion.

V W 511 - Thrust Pad - Current optional tool used to install bearing
race. Please check your inventory and order as required.

V W 548 - Clamping Piece - Current optional tool used when measuring
turning torque in connection with torque wrench. Please check your inventory and order as required.


AUDI SPECIAL TOOL PACKAGE AT-109


Every participating Audi dealer in the Automatic Supply program will be shipped one 3116 Clamping sleeve, freight prepaid. Shipments are anticipated to commence the week of April 22, 1991. Should you decide not to receive the 3116 by Automatic shipment, please notify your Zone/Distributor Service Department before April 15, 1991.

Tools V W 459 (PRESS APPLIANCE) and 21/4 (KUKKO PULLER) listed under Option 1 and all option 2 tools can be ordered through your teleprocessor (X.P.) or by purchase order through your Zone/Distributor Service Department.
