Fuel Injector: Service and Repair
WARNING: FIRE HAZARD! Disconnect battery ground strap when working on the fuel system. Do not smoke or create any sparks where odor of fuel vapor is present.1. Remove intake air boot.
2. Remove intake manifold upper section.
3. Remove fuel injector retaining bracket and pull injectors from manifold.
NOTE: If the injectors are removed for any reason, you should also remove the air shroud inserts and replace all the O-ring seals.
4. Remove injector inserts.
CAUTION: The inserts are plastic and are very easily broken. Use a penetrating oil to help loosen them and work them gradually from their sockets until they are free.
5. If injectors must be removed from fuel lines, slowly and carefully loosen the fuel line connection at each injector to relieve the residual pressure in the lines.
NOTE: Once removed, O-rings must be replaced. Lubricate new O-rings with gasoline before installing. If there are two colors of O-rings (black and red), install the black O-ring at the bottom of the insert.
