Service Solution:
CAUTION
DO NOT perform this repair if a week or more has passed since the engine was last operated.
If repair procedures in the repair manual DO NOT correct problem, test check valve operation and replace valve as necessary;
^ start and bring engine to operating temperature
^ remove oil pressure switch C
^ located in-line with oil pressure valve A
^ make a leakage tester as follows:
^ remove adapter B from oil pressure gauge VW 1342
^ cut a length of clear plastic tubing
^ 40 cm (16 in.) x 9.5 mm (3/8 in.) I.D.
^ insert adaptor B end, into tubing
^ secure with hose clamp
^ install adaptor B with attached tubing into engine block
^ thread end of adapter into oil pressure valve hole
^ fill plastic tube with engine oil
^ hold tube upright
^ tape to side of block, if necessary
^ wait 10 minutes for oil level to stabilize
^ mark level of oil in tubing
^ wait 20 minutes
^ if oil level falls below reference mark, replace leaking check valve

^ check valve Part No. 077 103 175B
^ apply sealant D 000 600
^ tightening torque: 6 N-m (54 in.lb.)
^ reinstall oil pressure switch C
