Steering: Testing and Inspection
1. Remove air shroud covering, then install hose clamp 3094 or equivalent on suction hose and carefully close Off line. If hose clamp 3094 is not available, use suitable clamping pliers.2. Install hose clamp 3094 or equivalent on return hose at reservoir and carefully close Off line. If hose clamp 3094 is not available, use suitable clamping pliers.
3. Disconnect pressure hose from pump, then remove copper sealing ring from banjo bolt and install onto adaptor US 1074/4C or equivalent.
4. Thread adaptor into pump, then close valve of pressure gauge US 1074B or equivalent and route hose of pressure gauge downward to pump.
5. Thread hose of pressure gauge onto adaptor, then remove hose clamps from suction and return hoses.
6. Start engine, at idle, read pump pressure at pressure gauge, then turn Off engine. Do not take longer than 10 seconds to take measurement, or damage may occur.
7. If pressure is not within specifications, replace power steering pump.
8. Reverse steps 1 through 5, noting the following:
a. Install pressure hose using new sealing rings on banjo bolt.
b. Run engine at idle with wheels in a straight ahead position for approximately 2 minutes, turn engine Off and immediately check level of fluid in reservoir. If necessary, top up fluid in reservoir to MAX mark.
