This Technical Bulletin is a reprint of Technical Bulletin, Group 87, # 91-03 dated April 30, 1991 per request of several Technicians.
Fogging windshield and windows can be caused by a broken fresh air/recirculation flap return spring. The flap will not operate properly if the spring is broken.
Note
Air temperature and humidity will affect the amount of window fogging.
Fresh air/recirculation flap return spring, checking
^ remove glove compartment
^ remove glove compartment liner (if equipped)
^ remove passenger side parcel shelf (if equipped)
^ remove instrument panel lower cover panel
^ remove screws (arrows) from recirculation air flap
^ disconnect spring from flap and remove flap
^ inspect fresh air/recirculation flap return spring (arrow) for damage
If spring is broken,
^ replace with Part No. 443 271 241
CAUTION
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest parts information.
^ inspect recirculation flap seal for alignment, distortion or rips and replace if damaged, Part No. 433 271 263A
Note
A misaligned seal exposes seal adhesive and causes the recirculation flap to stick. The added force required to open the flap may cause damage to the vacuum servo, servo mounting bracket or return spring.
^ thoroughly clean and remove any adhesive from surface of flap and seal
^ lubricate seal surface with silicone
^ connect return spring and reinstall recirculation air flap
^ check A/C system for proper operation
* fresh air/recirculation flaps must move (open and close) freely
^ install instrument panel lower cover panel
^ install passenger side parcel shelf (if necessary)
^ install glove compartment liner (if necessary) and glove compartment
