Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Remove oil pan, refer to OIL PAN.
2. Remove oil pickup tube, then the oil pump.
3. Disassemble pump and inspect cover and housing for cracks, scoring, porosity and damaged threads, pressure regulator valve and spring for sticking, scoring or tension loss and gears for chipping, galling or excessive wear. Replace as necessary.
4. Check clearances as follows:
a. Check gear backlash using a suitable feeler gauge. Backlash should not exceed .008 inch.
b. Check gear end clearance using a suitable feeler gauge. End clearance should not exceed .006 inch.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
