Ignition Timing: Adjustments
Before Testing:Engine at normal operating temperature (80°C/176°F)
No fault codes stored in memory.
All electrical consumers (A/C, rear window defroster, etc.) turned OFF
1. Connect timing light to the engine.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
3. Ignition timing will be read on the flywheel with a timing light.
Timing values;
Checking ........ 6° +/- 2° BTDC
Adjusting ....... 6° +/- 1° BTDC
4. To adjust timing, remove anti-tamper cap from the distributor hold-down clamp bolt.
5. Loosen the distributor clamp bolt and, with the engine at idle, turn the distributor until timing is within specification.
6. Re-tighten the distributor clamp bolt and install a new anti-tamper cap.
